Mkono Wa Damu is based on the story of the colonialist Carl Peters. On an expedition in 1884 he forced East African chiefs to give up their land. This historic event was one of the reasons the German East Africa colony came to be. Actors from Tanzania and Germany performed the events at historical sites in Cuxhaven, Zanzibar and Bagamoyo/ Tanzania.
