When the UNITED STATES arrived, Bremerhaven always fell into turmoil. The crew poured into shops, bars and restaurants in the port city. Shortly before departure the typhon boomed. Countless people lined the Columbuskaje to see off the legendary ocean liner for its journey to the USA. From 1953 to 1969 the ship sailed on a regular transatlantic service between Bremerhaven and New York.
