Theatre about the French occupation of the North Sea coast
In 1811, Napoleon occupied the German North Sea coast and declared it to be an additional département of the French Empire. He imposed a naval blockade and so fishing and cargo traffic to the North Sea coast came to a halt, causing great distress to the inhabitants. This led to fierce uprisings against the occupying power.
In the late summer of 2011, these historical events were presented at their original locations, at the dikes of Spiekeroog and Wursten, to tell this almost forgotten story of the Northern German landscape.
