HEIMWEH NACH HONG KONG (2013)

They came from small towns near Shanghai. Most of them never went to school before they set out on the journey. In Hong Kong they got a fast training at the laundry. The young men learned how to wash, put the laundry through the mangle and to iron. With a passenger ship of the North German Lloyd they were brought to Europe from where they were used as launderer on the oceans. The history of the Chinese seaman became material for the documentary theatre production. Therefore, author and director Jens-Erwin Siemssen, from the theatre Das Letzte Kleinod went to Shanghai to interview former launderer. The premiere took place September 19th, 2013 in Bremerhaven.
